Plumbing WELS Testing

 

The Vipac Plumbing Products Laboratory is NATA endorsed to carry out WELS testing of plumbing products to relevant standards.

•   Showers
•   Toilets and Cisterns

WELS Testing Requirements For Each Product:

Showers

Showers shall comply with the following requirements of AS/NZS 3662:

Section 5 – Performance requirements
5.1    Flow rate
5.2    Mean spray spread angle
5.3    Temperature drop
5.4    Shower hoses
5.5    Watertightness of end connections
5.6    Flow controller

Toilets and Cisterns

Toilet pans shall comply with the following requirements of AS 1172.1:

Section 3 – Performance requirements
3.1    Full flush – paper discharge test
3.2    Reduced flush – paper discharge test
3.3    Solids discharge test
3.4    Leakage and capacity test
3.5    Splash test
3.6    Wetting test
3.8    Reduced-flush liquid contaminant test

Cisterns shall comply with the following requirements of AS 1172.2:

Section 4 – Performance requirements
4.3    Distortion and leakage tests
4.5    Endurance test (Outlet valve)
4.6    Endurance test (Inlet valve)
4.7    Discharge tests
4.8    Flush pipe restrictor setting

Urinals

Urinals shall comply with the following requirements of AS 3982:

Section 1.6 – Performance requirements
1.6.1    Flushing test for slab and stall urinals
1.6.2    Flushing test for single stall wall-hung urinals
1.6.4    Splash test for urinals

Taps

Tap equipment shall comply with the following requirements of AS/NZS 3718:

Section 4 – Performance requirements
4.2       Plastic materials used for plastic-bodied taps (for plastic taps only)
4.3       Hydraulic strength test
4.5       Watertightness under pressure
4.6       Nominal flow rate
4.8       Torque of fabricated joints
4.10     Torque of head to body
4.12     Endurance test for taps and tap components
4.12.1  Endurance test for tap operating mechanisms
4.12.2  Endurance test for flow controllers in taps

Flow controllers

Flow controllers (except those intended to be used in showers only) shall comply with the following requirements of ATS 5200.037.2:

Section 9 – Performance requirements and test methods
9.2       Flow rate
9.3       Endurance test
9.4.2    Watertightness (for in-line flow controllers supplied in a body)
