Window Certification Testing

Window manufacturers in Australia are now required to produce windows and doors that meet mandatory specifications under Australian Standards AS1288 and AS2047-1999. Residential and commercial windows made from timber, aluminium, UPVC or other materials need to undergo the following performance tests before they can be labelled with an identification mark and a performance rating, verifying any product performance claims:

Deflection/Span Ratio Tests - positive and negative wind pressures are applied to the face of the window to test the maximum deflection limits.

Operating Force Tests - to verify that an opening sash is capable of opening and closing without undue effort.

Air Infiltration Tests - the air leakage of a window is tested to ensure energy and acoustic efficiency.

Water Penetration Tests - this test is designed to ensure no water leaks through the window into the building.

Ultimate Strength Tests - negative and positive wind pressures are applied to the window at 1.5 times the designed wind pressure to ensure it does not fail in unusual wind conditions.

Vipac has the facilities and experience in both Melbourne and Singapore to submit full-scale models to extensive testing to verify the strength and durability of windows, including structural performance as well as air and water infiltration. During these tests, sample windows are subjected to high wind and driving rain simulations, air infiltration pressure, operating force and ultimate proof testing. Acoustic certification tests to rate sound insulation or sound transmission loss can be conducted in Vipac's reverberation chamber to ensure the tested window will keep out low frequency noise from traffic, aircrafts and trains. Vipac is also conducting energy rating tests and security ranking of windows and doors.
