Wind Engineering

The Wind Engineering Division maintains one of the largest Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel facilities in the world. Scale models of proposed developments subjected to atmospheric wind flow simulations provide accurate information unattainable from other analytical, empirical or computation techniques.

Testing determines the static and dynamic excitations on built structures. Base bending moment, shear forces, wind flow in the natural environment, pedestrian level conditions and predictions of dispersion of atmospheric pollutants are recorded and analysed.

Supported by computational methods (CFD), Vipac’s services include full-scale measurement of existing structures. Wind effect statements and preliminary load estimates are prepared for development applications often required under statutory planning regulations.
