Adelaide’s tallest residential building
Features: If approved, the proposed 99 metre high apartment building in Austin Street at the northern end of Rundle Mall will be Adelaide’s tallest residential building.
Vipac’s role: To provide a desktop assessment of the wind effects likely to result from the proposed development.
Challenge: To identify wind sensitive locations and create wind mitigation measures using internationally accepted pedestrian wind criteria, project drawings, details of the surrounding buildings and local wind climate information, since the building has not yet been built.
Benefit: Vipac’s testing helped the developers understand how the area outside a building can be used and whether the conditions are conducive to outdoor dining/relaxation, standing or even walking. Vipac’s recommendations will help Elenberg Fraser to ensure public safety and comfort, and their report with recommended wind control measures will accompany vital documents submitted to authorities to facilitate building approval.
