Hamer Hall, Melbourne, Australia

About this Project: With its spectacular interior reflecting Australia’s colour and environment, Hamer Hall is hailed as one of the world’s greatest auditoria. Designed for the enjoyment of symphonic music of the highest standard, the hall can be acoustically tuned to suit any music. 22 fully retractable motorised woolen banners and curtains on the side and rear walls allow the hall acoustics to be adjustable downwards to a lower limit of 1.7 seconds. Thirty perspex shells above the stage can also be changed for different acoustic responses.

Vipac’s Role: Vipac worked in collaboration with Bolt Beranek & Newman (BBN), providing local acoustic and sound system design advice, serving the 2,661-seat concert hall – the largest venue in the Arts Centre complex, used for orchestra and contemporary music performances.
