Melbourne Cricket Ground
Features: With capacity for more than 100,000, the MCG has played host to many events since its opening in 1853 including the annual AFL Grand Final, the 1956 Olympic Games, and the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Challenge: To identify and control wind-related issues due to the southern side of the area being open to the main stadium and ground, leaving the region exposed to strong wind.
Vipac’s role: To conduct wind and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) assessments in and around the foyer of Gate 3, which houses the National Sports Museum and reception desk.
Benefit: Ensured staff member and pedestrian safety and comfort through assessments, design recommendations and wind mitigation measures.
