Raffles Hotel, Wafi City, Dubai
World’s First Newly Built Raffles Hotel
Features: 19-storeys and a signature pyramid shape, topped with a golden tip and glass capstone that constitutes three storeys of the structure.
Challenge: To design the facade (almost 100% glazing) to achieve the background noise levels required by the design brief – 30dBA with 24 hour traffic noise levels. Also, to achieve acoustic (noise and vibration) separation between the main ballroom and the leisure area (including a large swimming pool and water feature), located directly above.
Vipac’s Role: To minimise traffic noise and to ensure sound isolation between the hotel rooms, and also between the rooftop pool and ballroom below.
Benefit: Ensured high level of acoustic comfort and acoustic privacy between the main ballroom and the adjacent spaces and between the various components of the development (residential, entertainment and convention components). The acoustic design of the operable glazed facade provided the required attenuation of the traffic noise and met the stringent requirements of the design brief.
